erectors

The erector spinae muscles (erectors for short), are divided into three groups: spinalis muscles, longissimus muscles, iliocostalis muscles. They run alongside the spine, mostly medially located.

ROLE:  They move the vertebral column. Bilateral contraction of these muscles extends the spine, while unilateral contraction causes lateral flexion (ipsilateral). They also help to maintain posture by steadying the spine on the pelvis during walking. It's essential to keep them active and strong to help prevent back injuries and pain.
